Running shoes & water--musts for K-1 gym class

Parents and all of K-1 gym class kiddos,

Please, please be sure your child is prepared for gym class. I had a few kids last week with boots. At your home and otherwise, it may look like they manage playing just fine but when it comes to gym floors and organized activity, tennis shoes are really a must. I'd have them remove the boots but I foresee stepped on feet (or in duck, duck, goose...fingers!) which is almost as bad as a twisted ankle. These shoes need not be anything special, just a well-fitting shoe. Also, one of my students said she was getting a blister--please have them wear socks. Good shoes remove the barrier of limited mobilitiy; yes, it really is hard to run on the gym floor in boots, not to mention stepping on friends' feet!

And please know, I will not single out anyone for their shoes! I'm simply requesting as it would be a great help in several ways.

Water! We stop to hydrate multiple times during our 50 minutes (minimally 4 or 5 times depending on what we're doing). If your child doesn't have a water bottle, then he/she has to leave the room to go the water fountain (aka bubbler) for a drink. That takes away time and helpers.

Also, I've asked that snacks not be eaten during class. They may eat prior to coming in or after, but not during. Again, it's a timing thing.

So, please--have the shoes and the water bottle. If your child likes wearing certain shoes, have them bring running shoes to class and we'll help them if they require help putting them on. 😉👟

Thanks in advance for helping this gym teacher create a great environment for your kiddos to grow and learn without so many disruptions and barriers. The more you help, the more we can play!

Thanks!
