FabLab Mini Classes

CNC Router - We had another great day at Gateway College's FabLab this Tuesday. The lab's lead instructor, John Zehren, eagerly welcomes our kids and fits us in between his regular classes. The kids were able to create images of their own, learn how to manipulate them so that the router knows how to read their design, & learn how to cut out their design with the CNC Router. While this was a brief 3 hour introduction, the kids were able to see some more advanced projects being worked on such as homemade guitars. A few kids tinkered around in the lab while waiting their turn, doing things like learning to scan their face as a 3-D image & of course using the 3-D printers. Stay tuned for more of our monthly FabLab mini classes! 🙂

John invited the College's new CNC teacher to visit the class & introduce himself. I appreciate these classes because: - There's no way I can replicate these offerings at home, at least not without $ & space. lol - It's an easy way to explore interests with little investment. - If your child is inspired with these classes, they can lead into other opportunities. - It's a community college. Once our kids have learned a machine, they can come in & use the lab when there's open lab time. Just pay for the resources you use or bring your own in. While John, Adam, & team don't teach during open lab time, they can help guide. - It does introduce our kids to different forms of instruction.
