FabLab - Intro to 3-D Printing

Hi Friends! We've put together a mini class at Gateway College's FabLab to learn the basics of 3-D printing. The kids will be using Tinkercad to print a lightsaber with pre-designed parts. Any Star Wars fans? The kids will have a selection of parts to choose from & will come up with their own combination to form their lightsaber & print it! *Even if a lightsaber isn't your thing, taking the class can open the door to being able to use the lab as a community member when it's available. The rates they charge for using resources are very reasonable. So maybe check the class out & see where it goes. 😉

Before we get to more details, there's a couple things that will help the class be successful for everyone. If your child isn't already familiar with Tinkercad, it's a free web-based program and they should go through the tutorial before they get to class. It will help them immensely as they'll still need to learn how to manipulate the pieces and settings for a successful print, along with learning how to set up their printer. Also, please keep in mind that we're being welcomed at a college campus. The instructor will expect the kids to conduct themselves well. Thanks for understanding.

There will be a limit of 12 spots in the class. Cost will be $15 per youth. I should have a signup link to give you by the end of the week. I'm sorry for not already having one, but it's coming up & I wanted you to be able to plan for it if your kid(s) are interested. We hope to do a series of monthly mini classes on things like laser engraving, CNC router, further into 3-D printing, & maybe opening it up to more ages...if there's enough interest. 🙂
