3D Printing Lightsabers

ree

You asked for it & we're happy to provide! 😁

Who: 4th grade through high school

  • Youth will want to be able to stay on task & work responsibly in the lab. Parents are welcome to sit in.

What: Use Tinkercad to modify an existing design & 3D print a telescoping lightsaber. Printing will take hours & the FabLab may have other classes needing the printers, so they will print our designs & we'll each have to come back at a later date to pick them up.

When: Friday, Nov. 4th

8am to 12noon

Where: Gateway College's FabLab

2320 Renaissance Blvd.

(Behind the movie theater on hwy 20)

Cost: $15

ADDITIONALLY: The lead instructor, John, is offering a Zoom session walking us through Tinkercad on Thursday, November 3rd at 8am. If your child is new to 3D printing or would like a stronger grasp on it, this session is strongly encouraged. The desire is to cut down on the time kids spend waiting for John to get around to each of them for help and will hopefully be able to spend more time actively creating. Even if your child is not going to the lightsaber session but is participating in the co2 Grand Prix, they will want to sit in on this Zoom session unless they're well versed in 3D printing.

Attached is a photo of Joshua showing his lightsaber at fair through 4-H. It collapses into the handle & is the exact same design we'll be 3D printing. He got a 1st place blue ribbon for it...should anyone else want to double dip & show their FabLab creations through the computer science project with 4-H. 😉

* This post will be updated when registration on the Gateway website is available. 🙂

Is anyone able to bring Elias and Titus home? I’m sick. Hubby dropped them off. I live about a mile south of Target, near elmwood park
