September Meeting Highlights

I won’t always make meeting notes but felt it was important this time. 😊 For those who couldn’t attend, here are some key takeaways from this month’s meeting. (Buckle up! It’s long! 🤦🏾‍♀️)

Topic: Inclusion of Virtual Schoolers as Members

During the September meeting, we discussed the possibility of including virtual school families as members of RAHS. The overall sentiment seemed supportive of the idea, with many members advocating for the inclusion of these students.

Key Points of Discussion:

  • Support for Inclusion:

Many members expressed that allowing virtual school families to join would positively impact our group by increasing membership and providing much-needed support to families who currently lack access to resources and community.

  • Historical Perspective:

Founding members in attendance shared some of the history of our organization and explained why virtual schoolers were initially excluded when this educational option became available. At the time, there was limited information about virtual schooling, leading to the decision not to include it in the organization.

  • Concerns Raised:

Some members were concerned that allowing virtual school families to join could potentially lead to the inclusion of individuals who may not align with our values. There was apprehension that this could alter the group's dynamics and operations.

  • Statement of Faith:

The importance of maintaining our Statement of Faith was emphasized. It was clarified that this would not change, regardless of whether virtual school families are included. Instead, adding them would help us further fulfill our statement of purpose by supporting more families in alternative education styles.

Next Steps:

This meeting marked the beginning of an important conversation for RAHS. The board will discuss the matter further to determine the best path forward and will keep the membership informed about any developments or decisions.

Personal Reflection: I believe that including virtual school families would benefit our group, not only by expanding our membership but also by providing crucial support to families who may feel isolated. This aligns with our core mission of supporting diverse educational choices and building a strong community.

I’m most encouraged that we were able to have such an effective and loving conversation about this topic. I know some of us have differing opinions about it but for those who weren’t able to attend, it was so amazing to feel God’s leading and guidance as we discussed this. We opened and closed the meeting with prayer and with trust that He will continue to order our steps and help us in this decision.

We encourage all members to continue sharing their thoughts and perspectives as we navigate this important topic together.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the discussion. We look forward to continued dialogue and collaboration as we consider the future direction of RAHS.

I wasn't able to attend this meeting, but it is my understanding from previous discussions that RAHS would not plan on accepting money from the schools.
