January is a great time to evaluate how your homeschooling year is going. During the past few months, you might have encountered unexpected attitudes, behaviors, or reluctance that frustrates both you and your kids. Or you might be in the middle of, or coming out of, a traumatic time as a family.
Schools are equipped to help us understand our children as they develop, and recognize when a child needs additional services. The Board wants to provide a similar opportunity for our homeschool community. This meeting is not about labeling kids or offering diagnoses. It is about sharing experiences, resources and encouragement. Current speakers and topics are:
Grant Zahurance: Life Skills and Mental Health
Mary Andrews: Trauma and the Brain
Kristin Zimmer: Navigating Special Education Resources as a Homeschooler
Rachel DeMint: A Leaning Strategist’s ideas for the Classroom and Home
Lee Ann Peden: The Door to Discovery LLC - Cognitive Advantage Program
Deb Laverty: My experience with the Brain Balance Achievement Centers
Additional Table Hosts: Jessica Lehman: Testing for dyslexia, Laura Hufen: Mental Health, Elyse Scheeler: Milestones ect.
*I’m totally stealing this definition but neurodivergence “refers to people who process information in a way that is not typical for their age. This variation could include a diagnosed condition like autism or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), but neurodivergence itself is not a diagnosis.”’ – google search 12/4/25

I may want a moment to speak to the whole group.
