Please Read! Update on RAHS Safety & Security Committee
Hello everyone!
Our newly formed safety and security group met yesterday afternoon. Thank you to all who are volunteering! While we hope & pray that nothing ever happens, it's always good to have a game plan in case something does. We worked on creating protocols and plans for any emergency from medical, fire, weather, and even the dreaded active shooter type of situation. Our plans are to be prepared, but not scared. We are NOT planning to have any drills or announce our protocols to the students. Parents can make the decision on their own how they want to talk to their children about these matters.
I will be wrapping up our paper on our plans in the next couple of days and we will be uploading this to the member side of the website. We do want to make sure that all adults participating- especially teachers are familiar with our protocols so they can be prepared. Our main strategy is communication. We will have certain people throughout the building equipped with walkie talkies. In the event of an emergency, a text will go out to all of the teachers with instructions and we will be directing people on what to do and where to go. Ex: if someone gets hurt in gym and we need to call an ambulance, the safety and security committee will respond and assist the enrichment committee in contacting 911, the parent, and those of our members who can help. Then we'll direct classrooms to either stay in place or move so the EMTs can have easy access in and out.
In order for us to be able to respond quickly and effectively to any emergency, we're asking for some info from our members. We DON'T want to make this info public so responses from you will NOT go on our website. Myself and the committee person in charge of communication in the event of an emergency will be the only people with this information. If either of these below apply to you, please text me at 262-344-2551 (You may comment here if you're able to help medically but otherwise do NOT comment here). That way if an incident happens that you are able to help in, we can reach out to you specifically. If any of this applies to you, but you're not doing Enrichment this semester, just note that in the text too. We will be using these protocols for other events too. The following people will get a text in addition to the teachers in the case of a medical emergency. 1. Anyone with CPR, First Aid Training (indicate if your cert is current or expired).
2. Anyone with professional medical training- Nurses, Doctors, EMT's, CNA's, Medical Assistants. (Indicate your level of training.) The following people will get a text in addition to the teachers in the case of a potential violent or active shooter situation. (AGAIN- this info won't be shared beyond myself and the committee member in charge of communicating). 3. Anyone with a WI conceal carry license that plans to carry. 4. Anyone with professional training in tactical situations- Police, Military, Security (Indicate your level of training.) Text Joy at 262-344-2551 if any of these applies to you. Also if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me as well!
